Note from the Editor

The Millstone has now been publishing for just over 5 months and we hope that our readers enjoy it. We are still experimenting so you will find that there are some inconsistencies. We found, for example, that the search engine that sends subscribers e-mails only reviews the main page for new material and therefore subscribers may not receive an e-mail when an article is posted to any page other than "News". We have experimented with putting up a daily or weekly notice "Today in the Millstone" or "This week in the Millstone" on the main page to alert subscribers to new material, but have been inconsistent about this. We should like to know if this helps subscribers or if you would just prefer to check the site from time to time. New posts are always noted in the "Recent Posts" column on the right side of the site.

We have developed a schedule of sorts. Health articles are posted on Mondays, Millstone Profiles every 2nd week on Wednesdays (next one on November 24), Food articles, particularly, Gay Cook's recipes, on Thursdays and Bill Chapman's "By the Way" column on Fridays. Neil Carleton's column on trees of note, "Shady Characters" is posted on the 3rd Monday of each month and our new columnist Theresa Peluso will publish an environmental column on the 4th Tuesday of each month. Book reviews are published on Saturdays and we should welcome new reviewers. The Millstone will make a point of reviewing books by Mississippi Mills and Carleton Place authors so if you have published a book recently, please let us know.

We have not been covering council consistently but hope to improve coverage there throughout the winter.

We welcome suggestions. Please comment on articles or send suggestions to millstoneeditor@bell.net. We also depend on you, our citizen reporters, so keep those articles and pictures coming.
