'Tis the week of the Christmas concert!

Things get underway on Thursday, December 8 with a Christmas Cantata in Almonte performed by the Renfrew Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir. A free will offering will be collected, and proceeds will go to the Food Bank. Then on Sunday the 11th, you have your choice of three seasonal concerts. Starting at 2pm, you can Sing In The Season with the Carleton Place & District Community Band (again by donation to the Food Bank). In the evening, there are two great choices, both in Almonte. The Valley Voices Christmas Concert features old and new seasonal favourites and benefits a great local cause — the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum. Tickets are $7 in advance from Baker Bob's, or $10 at the door. A few blocks away, David Francey will sing Carols for a Christmas Eve, accompanied by Kathryn Briggs on piano and Terry Tufts on guitar. They will be performing at the Old Town Hall, where David and Kathryn recorded their lovely CD of carols a few years back. Tickets are $20 in advance from Mill Street Books or Mississippi Mills Musicworks, or $25 at the door.

There are plenty of other ways to celebrate the season this week. The annual Kintail Country Christmas is a huge hit for families, where kids can meet Father Christmas, shop at the children-only gift shop, go skating or for a horse-drawn wagon ride, and enjoy delicious treats. It takes place on Saturday, December 10 at the Mill of Kintail, and admission is only $15 per vehicle. And speaking of families, you can still take yours to see the Mississippi Mudds' hilarious holiday panto, Alice in Wonderland, at the Carleton Place Town Hall on December 9 or 10! Then, for a grown-up night out, head over to the Stewart Community Centre in Pakenham for a Christmas Dance with the Glen Silverson Band on Saturday evening.

There are several other events on the calendar for this week, so don't forget to check out www.theHumm.com.
