Mississippi Riverwatchers update and website launch

1

Since the first public meeting on April 11, 2012,  volunteers concerned about the Mississippi River between Appleton and Pakenham have formed a new group called The Mississippi Riverwatchers.  Over the summer and fall this group has been researching the river and its history, and spreading the word about projects that would affect its tourism potential, ecology and aesthetic appeal. An issue of special concern is the proposed plan for the Enerdu hydro facility under the Old Flour Mill apartments across the river from the Barley Mow.

The Mississippi Riverwatchers invite you to visit the new website at www.riverwatchers.ca. There you can get more information about the group, sign up for the newsletter and learn about the proposed hydro project. New updates and resources will be added regularly.

Below is a timeline of some of the group’s activities over the summer.  It has also been reaching out to other organizations like the Ontario Rivers Alliance, and working with local groups like the Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists.
