Snowy owls throughout the area

by Brent Eades

As reported in the Ottawa Citizen and elsewhere, Eastern Ontario has been the happy recipient of an ‘irruption’  (an usually large number) of Snowy Owls for the past couple of weeks. These lovely birds usually remain much farther north at this time of year, but it appears a shortage of food has driven them southward.

Snowy Owls have been spotted in various places around Almonte, Carleton Place and Carp recently. I’ve seen them three times on hydro poles along Highway 15 between Almonte and CP, and today was able to snap a couple of nice clear photos.
