For the Birds: Alas, a Crane!

Happy Monday and Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all our moms out there!   It’s finally beginning to feel like SPRING!

As I stated last week, I was looking for Sandhill Cranes…well, that very day I was fortunate enough to spot one in the very same location I spotted him a few days   earlier.  Unfortunately…they have been shy since. (photo below)

My good friend and I took a trip out to a Nature trail near Cobden last Wednesday and I was able to see the nesting pair of eagles there once again.  Also, I am  thrilled to announce they have hatched 2 chicks!

New to arrive in the area this last week, numerous varieties of Warblers, the Eastern Kingbird, the Green Heron, the Brown Thrasher, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak and one of my favourite little birds… the Ruby-throated hummingbird!  My children bought me a beautiful new hummingbird feeder from the Gilligallou Bird Store in Almonte for Mother’s Day.  I am hoping to attract more hummers to my yard.  I am not sure if that’s possible as they are very territorial.

Please enjoy my photos of the last week or so. (There are quite a few today!)

Locations of sightings will be posted in the caption of the photos.  If you have questions or would just like to comment, please feel free.

Have a great week of feathers and beaks!  ~Cheryl
