  1. quiz15Persons Day is celebrated in Canada on October 18th every year, marking the historic 1929 decision to include women in the legal definition of ‘persons’.  It was handed down by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council of Great Britain, Canada’s highest court of appeal at the time.
  2. Bill C-237, to promote gender equity in the House of Commons, failed to pass on October 18th, the anniversary of Persons Day, by a vote of 210 to 68.
  3. On January 13, 1910, Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci (in which Enrico Caruso sang Canio) were both transmitted from the Metropolitan Opera House, becoming the first outside broadcasts in history.
  4. Michael  Ondaatje won the Man Booker Prize for The English Patient.
  5. The Red Ensign was the name of the  Canadian flag before the Maple Leaf.
