The Almonte Lecture Series has an antidote to winter, with two new six-week courses beginning February 28 and March 2.

Join renowned Professor Peter Watson for Oh Dear, What can the Matter Be!, an investigation of the makeup of matter.   Professor Watson had presented several courses over the past few years, all of which have been entertaining and educational. He has the innate ability to describe science in layman terms that leaves his audience looking for more. This six week course runs Tuesdays from February 28 to April 4, 1:30 -3:30 at the Almonte library.

Tom Shoebridge

The second course will be given by local screenwriter Tom Shoebridge, a leading Canadian in the fields of screenwriting, film and communications.  Tom is the authority on the history of cinema, having led the Canadian Screen Training Centre for 19 years. He has trained some of Canada’s finest film makers, including Atom Egoyan  and Deepa Mehta.  This course will explore cinema through film clips gathered personally by Mr. Shoebridge, and should prove to be an excellent way to spend Thursday afternoons, 1:30 – 3:30, March 2 – April 6.

Registration for each of these courses is limited to about 30 people. Cost of each course is $75.00, payable by cash or cheque.  It is essential that you register with Don Wiles before the course begins. Please contact Don at: donwiles@cunet.carleton.ca
