Spring into Summer: Almonte Gardening and Outdoor Living Show

On Saturday, May 20th, the Almonte United Church is sponsoring this fundraiser in support of the Likulezi Project in Phalombe, Malawi, Africa.  An exciting feature is a series of gardening presentations by some of the best experts in the area. As well, visits a number of vendor tables, bid in a silent auction, view plants that are available for sale, enjoy lunch and refreshments and purchase new and gently used items for the yard and garden.  You can also place an order for handcrafted trellises, arbours, planters and more!

The following is the schedule for the gardening presentations:

9:30am – Plant Propagation – Jamie Roy, Acanthus

10:15am – Birds in the Garden – Bob Volks, Gilligallou Bird Inc

11:00am – Native Plants – Allan Goddard

11:45am – Native Orchids – Dave Cooper, Ottawa Orchid Society

12:30pm – Rock Gardening – Judy Wall, Rock Wall Gardens

1:15pm – Community Gardening – David Hinks.

The silent auction features 30 fabulous items, including a vintage canvas-cedar strip canoe. Prior to May 20th, you can bid for silent auction items online at www.likulezi.com. To see all the items, click on “Show all auctions”. Bids can also be made on Saturday or by contacting Doug Younger-Lewis at (613) 256-2738.

A variety of garden items, including garden sheds, cedar arbours, planters, trellises, bird feeders and garden ornaments will be on display that can purchased  or custom ordered for later delivery.

A delightful lunch and a variety of refreshments will also be available – an excellent way to keep up your energy as you browse and shop or as an enjoyable way to end your time at the Gardening and Outdoor Living Show.

The Likulezi Project is a grassroots community care organization, providing HIV/AIDS education to the community and palliative home care to those living with AIDS. A few years ago they built a greenhouse to grow indigenous Moringa trees that produce nim leaves that reduce pain for AIDS patients. The project also helps provide clean water wells, food supplements, orphan and guardian family sponsorship, and vocational training.
