Canada Day: Paddle our river for AGH

Calling all canoeists, kayakers and paddle boarders – Paddle for AGH

The Almonte Fair Grounds on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River will certainly be the place to be this Canada Day.  Everyone’s heard of a walk-a-thon or fundraising run, but what about paddling in support of local health care at the Almonte General Hospital.

Paddle for AGH features fun, family-oriented canoe, kayak and paddleboard races, a community group paddle up to Appleton and back, and a build your own raft and race event too!

“It’s all about celebrating Canada Day and the role that the Mississippi River played in the development of Almonte and the town of Mississippi Mills,” said Al Roberts, Managing Director of the Almonte General Hospital – Fairview Manor Foundation.  “This event combines paddling with fundraising in support of local health care.”

As well as enjoying time on the water, participants can win some amazing prizes including Wilderness Tours gift certificates, event T-shirts and much more.  Shore activities will include historical games and activities, Celtic music and food.

As well as canoe, kayak and paddle board event participants, we’re looking for teams to build rafts that morning and then race them across the river and back.  This will make for a wonderful spectator event.
