Saturday, November 25, 8:00 pm

On Saturday November 25, 2017 a beautifully refreshed space is about to be officially opened in Pakenham as staff feverishly toil to set up the renovated Pakenham Branch of the Mississippi Mills Public Library (MMPL).  The library, at the very heart of the village at 109 Jeanie Street, has been fully re-vamped, with approximately 1,200 square feet (111.5 M2) of additional space on two accessible floors.  During renovations the Branch has stayed open at the Pakenham Public School to serve its patrons.

The MMPL has asked that our community help with raising funds “for furnishings and equipment. Chairs, tables, shelves and computer technology are what [is needed] to create a great library that is welcoming and accessible to all.” The fundraising goal is $25,000. A fundraising committee has been working very hard to engage local community players and volunteers to be part of this effort.  The Committee approached JazzN.ca/ JazzNhouse co-founder Arnie Francis to participate in this initiative and he enthusiastically agreed:  “It’s not just about raising funds for things, but more importantly it’s about building awareness and commitment for a vital community-centric resource. That’s why JazzN.ca wants to help with this fundraising drive.”

In support of the community’s fundraising goals, the JazzNhouse series designated the November 25, 2017 event as “the JazzNhouse Pakenham Library Fundraiser” concert!  JazzNhouse invited the popular Toronto singer Alex Pangman, known as “Canada’s Sweetheart of Swing”, to come and perform on this special occasion.  Alex has earned a loyal fan base from her critically acclaimed work and performances across Canada and on the CBC. This 2016 JUNO nominee brings four fine musicians to back up her vibrant vocals. The quintet’s repertoire for the evening will include a selection of jazz standards, swing and blues from the 1920’s to the 1940’s – the era of the musical genre known as Swing.

The Alex Pangman Quintet will perform on Saturday November 25, 2017 at 8:00 pm, at an elegant private residence in Pakenham.  Since all venues for JazzNhouse concerts are private homes, this fundraiser will be no exception. There will also be a silent auction for guests to bid on all evening. Unfortunately for some, the concert was fully SOLD OUT over 5 weeks prior to the concert date!

The JazzNhouse Pakenham Library Fundraiser is made possible because of the generosity of Carleton Place businessman Keith Bean, and the Bean Chevrolet, Buick GMC dealership, – the performance sponsor.   As a result all net door receipts from this JazzNhouse concert will be donated to the fundraiser.

The Fundraising Committee thanks JazzN.ca as well as the generous businesses, library staff and volunteers from Pakenham and across Mississippi Mills and neighbouring towns for their commitment in helping with this community initiative!
