Almonte couple brings NCJHL hockey team to area

NCJHL Jr C Hockey arrives in West Carleton

Almonte residents John Miotla and his wife Beverly are excited to announce that they have acquired an NCJHL Junior C hockey franchise and are relocating it to play out of the W. Erskine Johnson Arena in Carp for the 2018-19 season.

John runs Almonte’s Mega’s Hockey Shop and is the President and General Manager of the new West Carleton Inferno junior hockey club.

John says “We are particularly excited about being the first NCJHL Junior C team in the area.  The NCJHL, fully sanctioned under Hockey Canada, has traditionally operated further east of Ottawa, in smaller communities east and south of Ottawa as well as in several communities in Quebec. We are in a sense opening a gateway for Junior C hockey in our area and we fully expect and hope that other teams will want to follow in our footsteps to embrace the potential opportunities this offers the talented players in the area.”

The West Carleton Inferno Junior Hockey Club is a great option for hockey players 16-21 years old who want to continue playing competitive junior hockey, but also want to balance their time with family, school, work and social commitments.  John says, “Given we have a 34-game schedule in the regular season with games on weekends, our players can achieve that desired balance.”

Home games will be Saturday evenings and on Sunday afternoons.  John adds “We will have plenty of opportunities for volunteer help and we will definitely need the financial support of local sponsors and advertisers to help offset the operating costs of running the team.”

A little background on the NCJHL

Fully sanctioned by Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO) and Hockey Canada, the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL) has a rich history of competitive Junior Hockey in Eastern Ontario.  From 1968 until 2010, the league was known as the Eastern Ontario Junior C Hockey League (EOJCHL).  At the start of the 2010-2011 regular season, the league was rebranded under its new name, National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL).
