Yesterday was an exciting curatorial day at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum.
At Mill Fall Condominiums they are doing a lot of work repointing around stone and repairing stones. Erl Jones the employee of Mill Fall Condominiums dropped by the museum shortly after 10 am yesterday. Earl asked me to come and see a time capsule found in the former mill.
The time capsule was from 1880, it was opened before I was asked to look at it. There was a photograph of Bennet Rosamond, a letter from Bennet, some coins, an Almonte Gazette, an Ottawa Citizen… see some pictures attached. I offered to take the items back to the museum to conserve them. They agreed.
The items are currently locked away for conservation, as hands and light can make them deteriorate rapidly. CBC came yesterday and did a story on it. Some of you may have heard the story this morning. More to come.
