Louis de Salaberry 1937-2014

After suddenly falling ill with an aggressive lymphoma, Louis de Salaberry passed away on April 25.

Dearly loved by his wife Janine and their four children, his sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, his thirteen grandchildren and two great-grand-children, his sister and brother (and their respective children and spouses) and many close friends and former colleagues, Louis left a legacy of caring through living his values.

His love for world events, philosophy, history, languages, reading, music, travel, good food and drink, and working with tools or in the garden were so much a part of how he connected with those he cared for and so much part of what he and Janine cultivated for their family.

Following a distinguished career as a Canadian foreign service officer who served in Germany, Tunisia, India and Sweden, Louis and Janine retired first to Ottawa and then to the home they built near Almonte. Once settled in their new home, he actively supported community arts and for many years was on the board of the local library where his love for learning and public service continued.

His last days were passed peacefully, surrounded by loving family at home. His comfort and care was greatly enhanced by the palliative care he received from the fifth floor staff at the Ottawa General Hospital and from the At Home Hospice team.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Mississippi Mills Public Library or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada will be appreciated. For information about his memorial event please contact JLPmem@gmail.com.
