For the Birds: To Mud Lake and Back again.

Good Monday Morning!

Today I thought I would focus on a favourite place of mine.  A friend brought me there about 3 years ago, and now I find myself going there on a regular basis.  It’s Mud Lake in the Britannia area. (Ottawa West) I LOVE going there…mostly because I love waterfowl, and there are a LOT of water birds there.

In the last 2 weeks I have gone 2 times.  Each time I was blessed with a neat photo opportunity ( or 2). The first time, (Saturday, last week) I was able to photograph a Yellow Warbler somewhat close up.  I was alone and so I just stood super still and waited for him to come closer.  That doesn’t always work, but that time, thankfully, it did.  Also, I spent some good quality time with a Blue Heron.

Then the last time I went, Thursday, again I was alone and I spotted a family of beavers very close to where I was standing.  2 of them left and one stuck around for some photos.  Very obliging beaver!  I will post that shot at the bottom of the set.  It was featured on CTV this past Friday…maybe some of you have seen it.

On the way back from Mud Lake both times, I took Upper Dwyer Hill Road to Pakenham.  Both times I was able to spot the Upland Sandpiper in the same area.  What an interesting bird..and he/she didn’t care at all that I was parked there taking photos.

Please enjoy my series of photos from my latest 2 trips to Mud Lake.

Have an enjoyable week of Feathers, Wings, & Beaks!
