Please put on some RED and attend this meeting to remind council you care and are paying attention.

There are 2 river-related items on the Town Council’s agenda for Tuesday night:

Item H, 1st point (Committee of the Whole Consent Items, #4) relates to theAppleton Wetlands and ends with: “… NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council approve sending a delegation to Queen’s Park to meet with the Minister to request a reassessment of the water levels identified in the Water Management Plan for Reach 18 given the conclusions reached by the research conducted by MVFN.”

Item I, By-law 14-86 Designate a Heritage Study Area
The by-law has been fleshed out and now includes many specifications, including the area covered, types of minor alterations permitted, what is not permitted, etc.

Full details are here: Council Agenda for September 16, 2014

*NOTE: We have heard that the HERITAGE STUDY BY-LAW vote will bePOSTPONED to Oct. 7.

Shaun McLaughlin states:
“At the Council meeting this Tuesday, a councillor will move to postpone the vote on the by-law until the October 7 Council meeting. (That will be the last Council meeting before the election.)

I support the delay. The three-week wait will provide councillors and residents an opportunity to study the revised wording.

This is a good example of how local government should work: residents raise a red flag, the Town listens, staff advise an alternate course, and Council responds.”
Please come out and show your continued interest in the River and your Town.
