Costa Rica – Paradise in Central America

by Louise Shane

Costa Rica is a photographer’s paradise and since our first visit in 2006 my husband Mike and I have returned again and again looking for more remote locations to enjoy its abundant nature.  After our 2011 stay in a beach house at the very remote Osa Peninsula we chose to travel in November of 2014 to the Nicoya Peninsula another eco-dense area of the country. After arriving at the Liberia airport at the most northern part of the country we picked up our rental 4×4 and headed out on our adventure.  We chose to rent a small house with a spectacular view of the pacific ocean situated on a mountain top near the town of Montezuma where we were surrounded by a variety of animals including many hummingbirds and monkeys.  Photography in the jungle is challenging and technically difficult but with some knowhow, patience and the right equipment the results can be stunning.  The howler monkeys were a constant presence with their monster like howls, they seemed quite content to go about their day in our presence and allowed me to photograph them at quite close distance without appearing to be stressed.

Costa Rica is a spectacular country for it’s scenery, wildlife, beaches, people and their culture, we were drawn to it after our first visit almost 10 years ago and hope to return again in the coming years.
