DRAFT PLAN AND GUIDELINES
HERITAGE CONSERVATION DISTRICT
The Town of Mississippi Mills is working on a Heritage Conservation District for downtown Almonte under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act..
We have arranged for a public Open House to receive input from the public about:
- how components of the Plan and Guidelines would be implemented
- whether the approach reflects the aspirations of the community for downtown Almonte
- whether the intent of the Design Guidelines and implementation strategy are understood.
About the Project
The Heritage Conservation District Study will be assessing the cultural heritage value of downtown Almonte and recommend whether this historic centre should be considered for Heritage Conservation District (HCD) designation under the Ontario Heritage Act. The Study is now in Phase 2, the development of the Draft Plan and Guidelines which is a tool and guide for managing change in downtown Almonte. Its purpose is to ensure that the Town (Council, its planners and the Heritage Committee) and property owners will respect the history, character and value of the District when making decisions about alterations to a property, new construction or infrastructure, and the demolition or removal of a building or structure within or adjacent to the District.
