Bells ring out to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the United Church of Canada

United Church Almonte 1Residents of Mississippi Mills may wonder why they are hearing bells ringing at 10:30 in the morning on June 10th. Here’s why.

The United Church of Canada is celebrating it’s 90th anniversary on that day. To mark the occasion, congregations have been
invited to celebrate their presence in the community by ringing their church bells 90 times. The bell of Almonte United Church will ring 90 times on Wed. June 10, celebrating church union which took place in 1925, uniting Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational Church in Canada.

The time set for the bell ringing , 10:30 a.m., is the same in all time zones. This time was chosen because the inaugural service
celebrating the formation of the United Church of Canada on June 10th,1925, began at 10:30 a.m.

Come and help us celebrate. Everyone is welcome.

Lemonade and cake on the lawn after.
