Walk the Block for the Canadian Cancer Society

Lanark County logoIf you are looking to have a good time and contribute to a great cause while doing it, then you should Walk the Block this Thursday, June 4!

This second annual event that raises funds and awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society takes place on a 1-kilometre, accessible loop at the rear of Lanark Lodge (115 Christie Lake Rd.) and begins at 11:30 a.m. with opening ceremonies, followed by the Cancer Survivor Lap. Teams of walkers get started just before noon.

The event features live music by local talent, a lunch barbecue at 12:30 and supper at 5 p.m. (meals cost $5). A luminary ceremony will be held at 9 p.m. Luminaries can be purchased for $5 each. The event winds up at 10 p.m.

“We hope people will come out and enjoy the festivities,” said Deborah Pidgeon, Lanark Lodge director. “You can support the cause by being a relay member team or making a donation. We do this event so that our seniors, families and staff from the long-term care homes who have to work shifts can be involved.”

Those interested in signing up to be a relay team can do so online at http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR?fr_id=20102&pg=entry#.VVNc-Y5VhuA (or search for “Cancer Society Walk the Block 2015”) or stop in at the Lodge. For more information, you can also call Ms. Pidgeon at 613-267-4225 ext. 7101.
