Margaret Edith (McKenzie) Atack  

1933 – 2015

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 1, 2015 at Almonte Country Haven in her  83rd year with her family by her side. Beloved wife of 60 years to W.A.James (Jim) Atack. Cherished mother to her children Iain Atack (Angela Tunney), Peter Atack (Madelaine Stewart-Dmaj), and Ellen Atack (Grant Gordon). Loving grandmother to Iain, Andrew, Lochlann, Nico, Cliona and Ruairi. Predeceased by her brothers Douglas and Robert McKenzie.  Born September 23rd, 1933 in Toronto. Margaret attended Queen’s University (BA Hon.’55, MA ’60, B.Ed’69) and University of Western Ontario (MLS’84). She was a much loved high school teacher at Woodroffe, Fisher Park, Glebe and Ridgemont high schools in Ottawa during the 70s and 80s. When she retired in 1989 and moved to Westport, Ontario, she continued to share her love of literature by running several book clubs in Kingston. After breaking her leg in 2013 she was hospitalized in Perth and Almonte , and finally moved to Almonte Country Haven in the fall of 2014.  A private burial was held Thursday December 3rd at the Auld Kirk Cemetery in Almonte. A public memorial service and celebration of her life will be held Tuesday December 29th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Gamble Funeral Home (www.crgamble.com), 127 Church Street in Almonte.  Donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to Canadian Friends Service Committee (CFSC) or to the Ban Righ Foundation at Queen’s University.
