Seeking investors to re-purpose Almonte mansion as co-housing

Thinking of downsizing?

burnsideWant to live in a lovely, big, rambling, 19-century riverside mansion? This isn’t for everyone but if you would like to live in your own private apartment  in a country house on the outskirts of a bustling small town and you love the aesthetics of old woodwork, stone fireplaces and light coming in through graceful arched windows, this might be for you:

Four investors are wanted to join in an exciting housing idea of modified co-housing in the Almonte area.

A gracious 3-story house sits on 5 acres along the river with gardens, lawns, a stone bridge over a creek. The house is to be sectioned into varying sizes of private apartments.  The house is in excellent shape, built in 1840, has numerous large rooms, wide hallways and staircases, loads of old built in wardrobes, cupboards, pantries, gas and wood burning fireplaces, boiler for hot water heat and several rooms to be kept as common space. There is a recently upgraded and heated, 2 story “coach house” on site, for studio/workshop spaces.

Approximate investment of around $300,000 (x 5 buyers). Very little work needs to done to retrofit spaces to be private apartments (ie: build in small kitchens and some dividing walls potentially need to be added as there will be a common kitchen and large dining room and reading room kept as common space)

The idea will be to keep the heritage flavour and style of the house.

People with positive, inclusive attitudes and adventurous spirits invited to join the group. Those who embrace laid back, yet active living are sought. The property hooks up to wonderful walking trails and is 15 minute walk to shopping/library etc etc.
