Editor’s Note: We have been on the OPP’s press release list for some years now. Recently they advised us of major improvements to this service, and also gave us access to a regular police report for Lanark County, first edition below. (LANARK COUNTY, ON) – Between Monday 12th February 2017 and Monday 20th January 2017 officers from the Lanark Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 336 calls for service.
The calls included:
Motor Vehicle Collisions, 22
(Including 3 Car Deer and 2 Motorised Snow Vehicle)
On Saturday 18th February at about 03.40 pm officers investigated a collision on Rosedale Road in Montague Township. A Kia car had struck and destroyed two mail boxes before stopping a distance from the scene. Jamie ALLEN 27 year old, of Drummond North Elmsley Township was charged with one count of “Unsafe Move, Lane or Shoulder” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. She was issued a Provincial Offence Notice which carries a fixed penalty fine.
At 05.35pm on Wednesday 15th February officers were called to Tatlock Road in The Municipality of Mississippi Mills where the driver of a “snowmobile” was in the west ditch suffering from a major injury. The driver, a 32 year old Drummond North Elmsley man, was transported to Hospital in Ottawa. No charges were laid.
On Wednesday 15th February OPP received a first report of a snowmobile collision that had happened 11 days earlier on Clayton Lake in the Township of Lanark Highlands. The driver and passenger of one machine advised that the passenger, a 25 year old Mississippi Mills woman, had suffered injury after a collision with another snowmobile. The drivers did not exchange information at the scene. The identity of the other driver is not known. Anyone having any new information regarding this collision is asked to contact the Lanark County Detachment.
On Saturday 18th February at 5.18pm on County Road 511 in the Township of Lanark Highlands, officers on patrol observed a north bound Ford Focus traveling at a high rate of speed well in excess of the speed limit.
The subsequent interaction with the driver and further investigation resulted in Patrcia PRESCOTT (44 years) of Tay Valley Township being charged:
One (1) count of “Driving with More than 80mgs of Alcohol in Blood”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
One (1) count of “Race a motor vehicle- Excessive Speed” contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
She was released to appear at the Provincial Court in Perth.
On Sunday 19th February at about 01.16am OPP responded to reports from other road users that a silver Jeep was driving erratically on Highway 7 in Beckwith Township. The vehicle was located and stopped. The driver, Shawn MAHERAL (45 years) of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills is charged:
One (1) Count Drive More than 80mgs Alcohol in Blood. Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
He was released to appear at the Provincial court in Perth.
On Thursday 16th February at 1.27pm officers investigated an incident of “road rage” that occurred on Highway 7 and McNeely Avenue in the Town of Carleton Place. The victim did not wish to pursue charges.
On Sunday 19th February at about 09.31 am officer responded to a reported assault with a weapon and threats at apartments in Almonte, Municipality of Mississippi Mills.
The investigation revealed that the victim did not wish to cooperate and no charges have been laid.
Saturday 18th February at around 09:30 am at South Street Perth, Nathan BAUMAN (29 years) of Tay Valley Township was seen to be using a cell phone while driving. He was charged with One (1) Count of “Drive Motor Vehicle on Highway Using Hand Held Device” and Two (2) Counts of Driving under Suspension. All three offences are Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
Saturday 18th February 10.05 am officers at Paul Drive in the Township of Lanark Highlands saw a Chevrolet car driving erratically. Benjamin METZ (24 years) of Township of Lanark was charged One(1) Count Drive Motor Vehicle No Plates / One (1) Count Fail to surrender Licence / One (1) Count Fail to Apply for Permit all contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He was also charged with One(1) Count of operate Vehicle No Insurance, Contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
Investigations continue in an Assault incident in the Town of Carleton Place and a Threats incident in the Town of Perth.
Another incident related to child custody issues and advice while six others related in some form to misuse of social media, instant messaging or other forms of potential harassment.
Break and Enters
On Wednesday 15th February between at 04.20pm officers responded to the Canoe Club in the Town of Carleton Place where a key holder had responded to an alarm and found the building insecure. Investigation revealed that person(s) unknown entered the premises and fled. No property appeared to have been stolen or damaged.
