On behalf of the ADHS Senior Boys Basketball team, we would like to send out a huge thank you for the unbelievably amazing support of our community.
We put out a call for financial aid to assist in our trip to OFSAA and the people of Almonte proved that we are not only the “Friendly Town” but also the “Generous Town”.
We received calls to pick up empty bottles and while we were there people also gave us cash and cheques, telling us to wish the boys well and that they were proud of them. The boys braved the freezing weather and stood on Ottawa street one morning early for an old-fashioned “Boot Drive” and we were overwhelmed once again by the giving spirit of our community.
We would love to list the names of everyone and every organization that gave so freely but we are afraid to miss someone. Please know that your generous donations ensured that every boy could attend the tournament without concern for how they would cover several nights in a hotel and every meal at a restaurant for four days.
On the road to OFSAA the boys clinched the LCIAA championship on behalf of ADHS for the first time since 1988. They then went on to dominate in the EOSSA tournament coming out as champions for the first time since 1993. A special mention to the amazing host high school of Opeongo who let our boys observe the tradition of cutting down the net!
At OFSAA the boys played strong and finished in fifth place for the tournament with four wins and just one loss in overtime.
We believe it is important to note that the boys played with incredible strength, heart and character the entire time despite the frustrating obstacles they faced. We were proud of the entire team for their play and their conduct. We assure you that you would have been proud that this group was representing your town.
On behalf of the boys and parents we would also like to send out a huge thank you to our coaches Dan and Kevin Hickey. These men invested countless hours of their own time into each of these boys not to mention the financial assistance they personally provided to make sure the boys had different opportunities throughout the season.
The words thank you don’t seem enough for the amazing investment you made in coaching and teaching the boys the art of the game as well as love of the game.
Once again, thank you to the amazing people of Almonte that helped our boys achieve their dreams!
