After a year of planning, JazzNhouse is proud to announce that Jon Ballantyne will take his place at the superb Steinway concert grand piano, in the acoustically beautiful Ron Caron Theatre in the Almonte Old Town Hall on June 16, 2018, at 8:00 pm.
Adrian Harewood, the popular Ottawa CBC personality and co-host of CBC News Ottawa, will be the concert emcee.
The Jon Ballantyne Quartet adds the finishing touch to the 2017-2018 JazzNhouse season, which featured JUNO winners Mike Murley, Mike Downes and Robi Botos as well as celebrated musicians like Kevin Dean, Alex Pangman, Mark Ferguson and Ineke Vandoorn & Mar van Vugt.
Jon Ballantyne – himself a twice-awarded JUNO recipient with multiple JUNO nominations – is a Canadian pianist who now lives in New York City where he is a much sought-after accompanist, band leader and featured soloist. In a manner not unlike the great Oscar Peterson, Jon infuses passion and persuasion into every moment of every performance. A virtuosic player, Jon can improvise easily or render jazz standards effortlessly.
Accompanying Jon Ballantyne will be the preeminent, Montreal alto-saxophonist Rémi Bolduc, renowned Toronto bassist Jim Vivian and internationally recognized Oregon drummer Alan Jones.
While JazzNhouse is a unique jazz house concert series not comparable to anything else in Canada, this concert was destined to have a bigger appeal than most living rooms could accommodate! The organizers have worked long and hard to have the concert event embody the spirit of community participation: Several of Mississippi Mills’ finest businesses have contributed exciting door prizes for the evening. Mississippi Mills Musicworks of Almonte will invite 20 music students, 12-18 years of age, to the Quartet’s rehearsal, compliments of JazzN.ca. In keeping with JazzNhouse’s ongoing commitment to support young musicianship, when doors open at 7:00 p.m. early arrivals will be welcomed into the hall by The New Sounds, a talented jazz ensemble from J.S. McCrae Secondary School. Guests will also get a chance to meet Mr. Harewood before the concert gets underway. Cartwright Springs Brewery of Pakenham will be hosting a cash bar, with wine and beer.
Seating for this performance is only available through online reservation, in advance. For more information about the concert, or to reserve seats, visit the JazzN.ca website at www.jazzN.ca.
