Christa Lowry launches mayoral run website

We’ve received this press release from Christa Lowry’s campaign.

Christa Lowry campaign website provides insight into current Councillor’s mayoral bid, asks residents to help shape her priorities for Mississippi Mills

July 9, 2018, Mississippi Mills – The launch of the Christa Lowry mayoral campaign website at www.ChristaLowry.ca is the latest example of Christa’s vow to bring “The willingness to listen … the experience to lead” to the office of Mayor of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills. The site also highlights new endorsements from numerous supporters living in Almonte, Pakenham and Ramsay wards.

“#1 Write your platform. #2 Knock on doors. #3 Ask for voters’ support. Does this conventional recipe seem backwards to you too?” stated Christa on her new website. “The focus of my mayoral campaign is to connect to as many people in Mississippi Mills as I can. I want to hear your ideas and share mine versus present my plans written in stone.

Many of my priorities are being shaped from conversations with citizens. Of course, you need to know what my plans are for Mississippi Mills too. These are the main areas that I’m focusing on in my campaign:

Great ideas from our citizens

How can we create our community’s brightest future together, according to you? I’ve heard many great ideas from people in our community already and I know the list will grow as I chat with more folks throughout the campaign.

Must-dos of responsible government

Establishing an annual budget that respects taxpayers, taking care of our roads, bridges, water treatment and ensuring that our long-term plans reflect our needs – who we are and where we’re going – are staples of good government and priorities for me.

Enabling prosperity

Our municipality can and should help create the conditions that encourage entrepreneurs to thrive, and play to our strengths in agri-business, healthcare, trades, tourism, value-added manufacturing and in the arts. We can also help create the conditions that ensure less fortunate members of our community can participate and contribute.

Sharing my vision of our community

It is an exciting time in Mississippi Mills! We are growing, business is booming, and citizens are engaged and passionate. I am eager to leverage economic development opportunities, support community volunteers and organizations and work together to build a quality of life that benefits everyone in our community.”

Christa was elected as a Councillor in Mississippi Mills in 2014 and was humbled to earn the support of 82.4% of Ramsay voters – the highest percentage of voter support for any Council member in Mississippi Mills. She is an eighth generation Lowry and her family has worked the soil here for over 200 years.

Christa’s great-grandfather Hollie Lowry was a well-respected Councillor and Reeve of Ramsay Township in the 1940s and 50s. Her Uncle Jim Lowry was also both Councillor and Reeve for Ramsay and received a Long-Standing Service Award from the Province in 2008 for serving in public office for 25 years. He then served four more years.

Here is a selection of the latest endorsements from community members who have already offered their support to the Christa Lowry for Mayor Campaign:

Barbara Carroll, Grief and Bereavement Counsellor: “Christa has a deep commitment to the community, its well-being, and its development. She has solid roots in the community, understands it from both rural and urban perspectives, and is skilled at finding middle ground when these perspectives diverge.”

Jess Norris, Sean Norris – Occupational Therapist, Firefighter: “In the years that we have known Christa, we have always found her to be family-oriented and community-minded. When approaching her as a Councillor, she always listens and then takes the time to answer questions.  As someone who grew up in this community coupled with the time she spent away from Mississippi Mills, we believe Christa brings insight and objective opinion to the current issues we face.”

Allan Brown – Retired Entrepreneur: “As a new retiree to Almonte (four years) and an outspoken advocate for honest, polite and forward-thinking communication, I am betting all my cards on Christa Lowry for Mayor. She represents a wide spectrum of interests in our lovely town and can deliver the goods to bring respectful dialogue and effective leadership to the table.”

Ron MacMeekin – Community Volunteer: “Someone vying for the position of mayor needs to have a strong desire to make Mississippi Mills a place where people want to live; to visit and to establish business roots. However, it takes more than wanting to be a positive influence. It takes a person with intellect, common sense, a strong work ethic and experience. Just as important, it requires someone who respects other people’s point of view and in turn is respected. Christa Lowry ranks high on all requirements and will make an excellent mayor.”
