Helping The Hub Help the Community
The Hub has worked to improve the community of Mississippi Mills for almost 45 years by selling recycled goods at fair prices and donating the proceeds to those in need. In all that time, not once has it made a public appeal for financial donations. The organization is currently undergoing a $350,000 revitalization project of their long-time home at 118 Mill Street in Almonte, and although they have raised over $170,000 so far, they are looking for further assistance in reaching their goal.
To date the community has helped out in many ways, organizing musical benefits, bake sales and even a Royal Wedding Breakfast. And a talented group of actors, singers and goofballs is currently rehearsing The Phantom of the Hubera — a musical play first written by Fern Martin to celebrate The Hub’s 35th birthday back in 2009. The updated script features a few new scenes and several extra songs, and promises an evening (or afternoon) of heart-warming hilarity.
There are five shows planned from April 4 through April 7 at the Almonte Old Town Hall, and to encourage everyone to attend the ticket price is only $15. Tickets can be purchased at Mill Street Books in Almonte or on Eventbrite.
So come on out for some fantastic entertainment — and grab some goodies at the on-site bake sale — all for a great cause.
