Almonte General Hospital funds ripped off again.

by Bruce Kingsley

For the second time in as many weeks the donation box attached to the leaf compost bin at Al Potvin’s house has been stolen.

For years now, Al has encouraged Mississippi Mills residents to drop off their fall leaves and clippings for rendering into garden compost.  Al works on this enormous pile of garden waste.  With his tractor, he turns the material, mixes it and screens it. After about one year the fresh garden compost is placed in a large bin at the end of his driveway.  Al sells the compost for two dollars a recycle blue box full.  Over the years this has raised thousands of dollars all of which is donated to the Almonte General Hospital.

It’s an honour system.  Drive over. Fill your blue box.  Put you two bucks in the receptacle attached to the bin. No one is there to check how much you take or how much you leave.  It’s money for the Hospital for goodness sake.

Al empties the cash box regularly so there is never a lot of money in it  but still someone has taken it upon themselves to steal the  box.  Not an easy task as the box is so securely attached the bin itself had to be destroyed.

Al promises to try again
