Appleton boat launch to be used to put an excavator and barge in the Mississippi River

AppletonFacility Operator Jeff Bretzlaff of the Appleton GS is advising that an excavator on a barge will be put into the river from the Appleton Boat Launch. The excavator is necessary to remove stones which have been drawn into the turbine outlet ports and accumulated so that the tail race gates cannot be closed. Removal of these stones requires divers and an excavator on a barge. The stones will be dumped back into the river at the point of the island just downstream of the facility.

A new date for the launch has been set. It is in or around September 15.
