Sunday February 28th starts at 12:30 pm at the Almonte Curling Arena

The 20th anniversary of Almonte Celtfest takes place this year, July 8-10, 2016 in Gemmill Park!! We want it to be the best ever, and have already started working hard to line up some fabulous entertainment, including Le Vent du Nord for Friday evening in the Park, Coig, and Vishten for the Saturday and Sunday headliner entertainment. Our own Cindy Thompson, Celtfest’s Fiddler in Residence will open for Coig on Saturday. You won’t want to miss all the fun this year–a parade is in the works, and we are making an effort to challenge the Guiness Book of World Records for most fiddlers playing simultaneously in one place (Gemmill Park), to name a couple of our ideas.

Celtfest needs funds, though, to help pay for this outstanding show, so everyone is invited to a resurrection of Celtic Curling, a popular Funspiel from the past. This year promises lots of fun on the ice at the Almonte Curling Arena as teams ‘compete’ for wild prizes such as best costumed team according to our theme “20th Celebration of Celtfest”. Included in the price of $100/team ( or $25/person) is a great chili meal complete with bun, dessert, and tea or coffee. There may be some shenanigans going on too…there is always that potential when it comes to Celtfest!! Curling will begin at 12:30 pm and continue throughout the day, guaranteeing each team 3 6-end games.

Register your team together, or sign up singly to be placed on a team. Registration forms are available on the Almonte Celtfest Facebook page, or you can call Cecil DuBois, Drawmaster at 613 256 7030. There is a limit to the number of teams that can be accommodated, so don’t delay on this chance to join Liam and the rest of us in some winter hilarity. Call now and reserve your spot!

Not a curler? Doesn’t matter…ALL are welcome to participate on the ice as this is fun curling, not the Brier stuff. Come on out and give curling a try…we will make sure you are curling with others who have some experience. And if you really don’t want to curl, come anyway, cheer on your favourite team while enjoying a hot chili meal for $10.
