In conjunction with Fridays for Future’s day of Global Climate Action and Climate Network Lanark

Join us in Almonte on Sept 24th at 3:30 to remind our newly elected officials that Climate Justice for All must be prioritized.  At 3:30 we will meet at the parking lot near the Green Mill on Ottawa Street at Patterson and then progress to the Old Town hall to add to a community artwork that asks “What does ‘Climate Justice For All’ look like?”

September 2019: it is estimated that 6 million people around the globe participated in marches to protest inaction on the Climate Crisis. The crowd in Ottawa was tens of thousands of people of all ages who knew they were part of an historical moment. So much peaceful, determined energy!

In Montreal that day, where Greta Thunberg spoke, the Montreal school board cancelled classes for 114,000 of its students! Reports and videos of thousands of people in towns and cities around the planet marching on the day are still hopping on the net. The excitement of regular people having their moment, to tell the powers that be that we wanted action was unforgettable. Last year’s march was subdued due to Covid , but this year, with most people vaccinated and our being used to Covid protocols, marches are being planned again.

Climate Network Lanark is joining the global movement and organizing marches in Almonte and Perth for Friday September 24. We will be part of marches planned around the world ahead of The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland between 31 October and 12 November 2021.

We invite you to bring the whole family to help celebrate our beautiful planet and voice your determination to keep it as a livable place for our kids and their grandkids. The organizers have had wonderful response from community members to help make the day a real treat with singing and a collaborative art piece to stimulate conversation and action for a long while!

On Monday September 20,  we hope to have elected a federal representative who will strongly advocate for us regarding the Climate Crisis. Let’s show that person how important Climate Action is to us:  that we will take the time to sing and march for clean air and water and all the treasures the splendid green earth provides in our very beautiful part of the world.

By asking “What does Climate Justice for All look like” we acknowledge that though “We are united in our fight for climate justice, but we must also acknowledge that we do not experience the same problems; nor do we experience them to the same extent.” – Fridays for Future

Global Climate Strike- PERTH

Sept 24th at 11:45

Meet in front of the Shoppers on Highway 7

What to bring? Noisemakers, signs, water.

Wear Green and Blue and COVID masks

In Perth, CNL participants will be taking up their regular posts on Hwy 7, basically in front of the Shoppers Drug Mart. They report that over the past couple of years of rallying there, the din from drivers honking their horns in support of climate action has jumped by leaps and bounds. It’s a regular cacaphony with people supporting signs that say “System Change, Not Climate Change,” “Follow the Science”, “There is No Plan B” and “Honk for the Climate.”

Rally goers will gather at 11:45, and finish at 1:00 pm. Parking is to the east side of Shoppers. Wear colourful clothing, bring colourful umbrellas and noise makers, and a mask. We do keep social distancing, but always better to be safe.
