Green donation boxes divert donations from the Hub

by Glenda Jones, President, The Hub.

Green bins (2)Over the past couple of years, Mississippi Mills has seen the proliferation of Green Donation Boxes springing up on vacant lots, beside businesses, and on various corners. Although the bins are labelled as being for the good of your community, they are not actually local at all. They have been placed here by an anonymous agent with no affiliation to charities in Mississippi Mills at all.

Hub supporters may believe these are Hub collection boxes, but in no way are they connected to the Hub or to Rebound. The boxes are often left unemptied for long periods, open to the weather, and quickly become unsightly. Efforts to reach the owners of the boxes have been futile.

If you have items to donate, and want to know that your donation will be gratefully received, will be respected, and will be sold locally to return the profits to your community, please bring them to the Hub during our store hours, and we will recycle responsibly.

Both the Hub and Rebound rely on the generosity of our community to operate the stores, and are happy to announce that through the donations we receive and sell we have supported other charities in our midst to the tune of over $60,0000.00 last year.

Please think twice before sending your goods outside Mississippi Mills when the Hub has been providing this valuable service for 40 years, making a significant contribution to the quality of life here.

It would seem that the community didn’t request the Green Bins, and now cannot get them removed.
