HOUSE SWAP.  Multi generational family from Mayne Island, British Columbia is hoping to swap homes with someone in the Ottawa/Montreal area for two weeks – at the end of July or the first two weeks of August to do some family history exploration. I am a grandmother, and will be with my daughter and son-in-law (both teachers) and my 10 year old grandson. We want to spend some time in the area researching and better understanding our early family settlement in Canada, as well as visiting museums in Ottawa and Montreal.  We would also like to do a car swap if possible and would love to have a pool to cool down at the end of the day.

Our heritage home overlooks a long bay, with views of the distant mountains. A beautiful small swimming beach is a short walk from the house. Nearby hiking trails lead to good vistas for seal, sea lion, occasional whale viewing. Kayaks and bikes can be rented on the island. A weekly Saturday market in the summer months highlights local produce and artisans. Small outdoor concerts occur throughout summer months in the village centre. The nights are cool on the island. The mornings are fresh and lovely for outdoor dinning.

The house was built in 1898. Furnishings are in keeping with the style of the house. Two bedrooms, each with its’ own bathroom, are on the lower level and open out onto a terrace overlooking a neighbouring apple orchard and the bay beyond. On the main floor of the house, are an updated kitchen, formal dining room, living room, bathroom and sunroom.
Mayne Island is situated between Tsawwassen and Vancouver Island, an hour plus ferry ride from the airport with two sailings per day, morning and evening.  For photos, please refer to our website
