Act Fast

Before we dig into this week's offerings, we would like to offer some advice: if there is an event coming up that you might like to attend — BUY TICKETS BEFORE THEY ARE GONE! Last week, the musical production Naismith is Colourblind and He Can't Drive sold out and several people had to miss a very entertaining, high energy show. This week, if you had been hoping to attend the Violet Femmes Gala this Friday or the Ric Denis & 3 Tribute to Van Morrison at Foodies, we are sorry to have to tell you that it is too late. Both events are sold out (although, we hear through the grapevine that Julie at Foodies might be taking names to see if there is interest in a second show). So, let that be a lesson, if you are hoping to catch the return of Nathan Sloniowski's John Prine Experience at Foodies on November 25 or Royal Wood on November 26, best get your tickets now.

Other musical happenings that you don't want to miss this week include: Almonte in Concert's presentation of Passion & Delight with Marie-Josée Lord on November 19. Ms Lord is a soprano who is a rapidly rising star on the international vocal scene. On November 18, the Findlay House Concert Series presents The Rakish Angles. This boundary crossing, genre-blending stringband weaves an intricate tapestry of newgrass, latin, gypsy jazz and oldtime music — check them out.

There's more than music available this week, though. For the younger set, On Stage For Kids has a production of A Christmas Carol by Dufflebag Theatre on November 20. In this adaptation of the famous story, actors involve the audience in an unpredictable and energetic performance. On November 15 at 7pm, Arts Carleton Place will hold their Annual General Meeting upstairs at the Thirsty Moose, all are welcome. And finally, with the rise of gluten sensitivity it seems smart to join others who are meeting the challenges and seeing the benefits of changing to a gluten free diet.. On November 17, Mill Street Books presents a Gluten-free cooking demo and book signing at Equator Coffee Roasters. Kathy Smart, author of Live the Smart Way will answer questions and demonstrate how to prepare gluten free goodies.
