Gardening is great exercise for seniors. You’re outside, moving around, breathing fresh air and getting your hands dirty! What’s not to like? Having raised garden beds makes it easier for anyone to be involved and then there are all the good friends you meet and the good food you grow.
Tenants of Mills Community Support’s Town and Country Apartments have come together with the Neighbourhood Tomato Community Gardens to do just that; build some raised beds so they can get their hands dirty growing good food for themselves, local neighbours, and the food bank by supporting the Neighbourhood Tomato’s “Great Veggie Grow-Off.”
Staff member, April Georgeadis, has the tools and is willing to be the forewoman for this “garden box building bee.” She’s bringing some volunteers from the Ramsay Road home. The lumber, tools, and soil are onsite. We just need a little help.
Have you an hour or two on Tuesday June 2 between 5 and 8 pm to help us create and fill three raised garden beds at the Town and Country Apartments? If you do, join us onsite at 375 Country Street.
