The North Lanark Historical Society is holding its Annual Heritage Dinner on Friday, February 19th, at the Almonte Legion. As part of the event, a Silent Auction is offered with items collected from local businesses and community members. Does your business have a product, gift basket or gift card that you could donate? Do you have a special item, piece of art or gift that you could personally donate? We appreciate any donations for the Silent Auction and all businesses will be acknowledged at the event. Items can be dropped off at the North Lanark Regional Museum, 647 River Road in Appleton, from Monday-Friday, 10:00am to 4:00pm. Thank you!
Tickets for the Annual Heritage Dinner are $30/person and are available for purchase at the Museum and Baker Bob’s in Almonte. This year’s guest speaker will be Rick Roberts, of GlobalGenealogy.com, who will be presenting The Lanark Society Settlers, an Assisted Emigration Scheme. The Lanark Society Settlers’ emigration from Scotland to Eastern Ontario in the early 1820s is a revealing example of the assisted immigration movement of the 19th century. Rick will examine the circumstances that pushed settlers to leave all that was familiar to them, and the factors that pulled them to settle in the wilds of north Lanark County.
