OPP officers in Lanark County are investigating an old scam which has victimized a number of innocent people. The victim receives a telephone call from an alleged relative, often a grandchild, stating that he or she has been arrested and needs bail money forwarded to a named third party. The caller often claims to have been involved in a collision in order to increase the pressure on the victim.
The bail money requested has been between $1200 and $1800.
