Since 2012, Almonte Country Haven residents have had their very own dog…a yellow lab. His name is Blue and he is a working dog, with the hours 8-4 Mondays through Fridays. Our residents originally requested their own and so the research was done and Blue was brought to us by a breeder in southern Ontario who trains Labs to work in LTC Homes. Blue is very responsive to resident’s needs and is often seen lying at a resident’s feet, being petted by a resident, or walking with a resident in the corridors. For palliative residents who have a special bond with Blue, he does not leave their side for the greater part of the shift.
