The black swans at a nearby lake were very friendly, as long as you had some food for them.   If you didn’t, they stood up and straightened their long necks and tried to look threatening.

I hate to make personal remarks about such a delightful country, but these bloody Aussies can’t even get their flowers right!  I mean, look at this kangaroo paw.  Who ever heard of a plant with a GREEN blossom and a RED stem?  Shouldn’t that be the other way around? OK, we are in the Southern Hemisphere, but even down here, photosynthesis requires green pigment, right?  (Interestingly, the seeds of this flower require a wildfire to burn them before they’ll germinate!  We brought some seeds back to Canada and burned some twigs over them to crack open the seed pods.)

And look at these flowers below.  Colorful, but seriously weird.  Do they look like something you’d want to pick and put on your table?
