The Canadian Cancer Society is a national, community based organization of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of Cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with Cancer.
Relay For Life is one way that a community can come together to raise awareness and money. During a Relay For Life, teams gather with cancer survivors at their local track, stadium or sports field and take turns walking laps all night. Each team keeps at least one member on the track at all times, while all around them the party is in full swing. Teams stay overnight in the decorated tent city, united to enjoy music, food, activities and entertainment and to celebrate life.
Every dollar you raise at Relay For Life helps the Canadian Cancer Society to have more impact, against more cancers, in more communities, than any other cancer charity in Canada.
The 2015 Mississippi Mills Relay For Life is scheduled for Friday JUNE 5th. The organizing Committee is hard at work on this year’s event, with plans to make it bigger and better than ever before. This year’s theme is “Relay at The OK Corrall”. Dust off your cowboy boots, and hats, and mosey on down to Gemmill Park in Almonte. There you will find many activities and enjoy entertainment all night long as we celebrate, remember, fight back.
With 30 teams already registered for this year’s Relay, the committee is confident that the 2015 Relay For Life will be a huge success. Of those 28 teams, 7 are brand new teams to Relaying. It is great to see youth get involved in this fun inspirational fundraiser. We currently have 7 youth teams registered! The youth teams are ADHS, Almonte Jr Civitans, Boobie Doobie Doo’s, Cancer Wrecking Balls, Fiesty Flamingos, Valley vixens, and Vipers cheerleading.
The committee is looking forward to working with our previous sponsors, volunteers, and members of the community who have come together to make this a success in previous years to meet their goals.
There is always a need for more volunteers in our community, and we urge you to get involved. There are positions available on the committee as well as volunteer positions on the day of the event. It is a great way for high school students to get volunteer hours, or get to know your community if your new in town.
Are you musically inclined or know someone who is? We are looking for acts that fit our theme or are just passionate to help out.
