Suspicious gas leak near robbery site?

by Brent Eades

This is turning into a strange day in Almonte and area.

We just reported an attempted robbery at the Royal Bank on Ottawa Street this morning.

We haven’t had time yet to report a bomb threat sent to Carleton Place Hospital a few hours before that — and now we’re now hearing of a gas leak about the same time, reportedly around the building that houses Dandelion Foods and other businesses.

According to Inside Ottawa Valley, “firefighters from Almonte and Pakenham, as well as Ontario Police Police, are on scene of gas leak on Ottawa Street. From early reports, it appears the gas metres have been tampered with and a building on Ottawa Street is now being evacuated.”

We’ve been in touch with the OPP but so far have no more details to report.

At this point we’re not entirely sure what is going on. If readers have any solid information we ask you send it to us as at millstoneeditor@bell.net.
