The Millstone is pleased to offer its readers a new column, the Night Sky, authored by Pat Browne, Mississippi Mills resident, member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, and part of the Night Sky Conservation Team of Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority.
Mississippi Mills is one of the few communities which has a dark sky by-law, a forward looking piece of legislation which protects the night sky from light pollution and permits us to see the wonders of the universe from our community. Mississippi Mills also boasts the Fred Lossing Observatory, maintained by the Royal Astronomical Society. Our observatory has been responsible for the discovery of several comets.
Pat will publish a powerpoint lecture in the Millstone today and every second Friday, in a run up to the the Friday night astronomy courses at the Mill of Kintail that commence April 13.
