EDITOR’S NOTE: I’ve helped out at Celtfest in recent years and it’s always a lot of fun. Great music, great people, great location. Volunteer if you can.
Celtfest needs volunteers!
By Ruth DuBois
The 21st Almonte Celtfest is almost upon us, beginning Friday July 7th in the evening, and continuing all day Saturday, the 8th, and Sunday, the 9th in Gemmill Park. The line-up this year is robust, as always, featuring De Temps Antan (Friday night), Ecosse (Saturday), and Searson (Saturday and Sunday). Admission at the gate is by donation to what are the best Celtic performances of Canada’s 150th birthday, certainly within the Ottawa Valley and area.
VOLUNTEERS CAN SIGN UP ONLINE. Orientation to your assigned role and tasks will take place at the Old Town Hall on MONDAY JULY 3rd , 6:30 pm.
The need for volunteers is urgent given that there is much work to do and a slim budget to ensure the caliber of entertainment for which the festival is known. Volunteer roles include helping at the admission gates and providing information to festival attendees, assisting in the Little Celtz (kids) zone, assisting in the Senior’s Tent, overseeing parking, helping behind the scenes back-stage, setting up and tearing down, and a myriad of other tasks.
Volunteering is FUN!! It is a chance to give to your community while enjoying the festive atmosphere, listening to high quality Celtic music and dance, and meeting the many people who attend the festival as volunteers or guests. All skill levels are needed from those who just want to run errands or sit at the admission gate to greet festival attendees, to more specific roles associated with setting up the main stage or managing needs behind stage. We need people who are willing to give their time, as little or as much as the volunteer can donate, so even if you only have an hour or two to share, consider participating in this opportunity to help us make Celtfest a huge success again this year!
If you are interested in volunteering, but are unsure about anything or cannot register on-line, and/or cannot attend the orientation session, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Trish, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, Attn: Trish Sawers.
Take it from me, a Celtfest volunteer for the past 3 years—it is a fabulous experience, and some of my best memories of Almonte revolve around the people I have met through Celtfest. I have learned some new skills, and shared what I could bring to the team. It is truly what makes our lovely town a friendly place to be!!
See you there again this year!
