Grade 11 and 12 students who live in or attend school in Mississippi Mills are eligible to apply for the awards. There is a $100.00 prize associated with each award, and the Young Awards Foundation has set aside enough funds for up to 14 awards this year. Students apply in one or more of the following categories: art, dance, music, drama and writing.
The application process is different than that of many high school awards. Students choose to apply, gather references, and prepare an online presentation on “Who they are, and what the arts mean to them.” The format of the online presentation is very open, and creativity is encouraged. Applicants will also submit an online portfolio of the work they do as an artist. More details about the application process can be found on the Young Awards Foundation website at http://youngawards.ca/.
Applications are due by May 31. Award winners will be announced at the end of the school year, in June. The Young Awards Foundation invites the communities of Mississippi Mills to join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our young people. Let our Young Artists know how proud we are of them!
The Young Awards Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to sponsoring dynamic arts-based initiatives in Mississippi Mills. Since 2009-10 the Young Awards Foundation has funded more than $63,000 of arts programming and arts infrastructure in Mississippi Mills Schools.
