This evening, Michael Caughey and his wife Susan Hamilton presented their gift of a puppet caricature to Mayor Shaun McLaughlin at a Meeting of Council in the Council Chambers of Mississippi Mills. The puppet was made by Noreen Young who was there with them.
Susan made the presentation. “We, Susan and Michael – residents of Almonte for 15 years – are most grateful for this opportunity to present a puppet to His Worship Shaun McLaughlin on behalf of our family. Like so many others in this community, we – with our children and grandchildren – have enjoyed many years of Shaun’s warm friendship and boundless hospitality, alongside the gracious Amelia Ah You. The presentation of this puppet, therefore, is firstly an expression of thanks to Shaun and Amelia from all of us – family and friends. Secondly, this presentation is made in support of the International Puppets Up! Festival for which Noreen Young is Artistic Director.”
From time to time, it is Noreen’s pleasure to build caricature puppets of real people and, over the years, she has been commissioned by many politicians, entertainers, Governors General, business owners, and private individuals to do their likeness in puppet form. Most recently Mike Caughey and his wife Sue Hamilton commissioned Noreen to do a puppet likeness of our new Mayor Shaun McLaughlin.
The puppet was presented to the Mayor on the evening of June 2nd along with an invitation for the Mayor to be a VIP in the Puppets Up! parades on August 8 & 9.
It is hoped that the Mayor will enjoy having his mini-Mayor sidekick around to help him with his municipal duties.
