George Brown — obituary

George Brown

January 29, 1943 – July 13, 2026

With heavy hearts, the family announces that George passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home and while surrounded by loved ones on Monday evening, July 13, 2026. George Duncan Russell Brown of Pakenham was 83 years old. Beloved & cherished husband to Erma (nee Bradley) for 64 years. Dearly loved Dad of Ted (David Stevens), Rob (Kim Capiral) and Melanie Ferguson (Collins). Proud and devoted Grandpa of Jade Gourgon (Shawn), Russell Brown, Nicholas Brown, Jillian Ferguson (Warner Giles) and adoring Great-“Gumpga” of Keith Gourgon. Dear brother of Patricia Pink (Douglas), Alexander Brown (June), Andrew Brown (Glenna) and Ralph Brown (Deborah). Fondly remembered by Anita Brown.  Also survived by many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.  Son of the late James and Dorothy (nee Fraser) Brown.

George was born in Cornwall. His family then settled in Almonte where he enjoyed his childhood at Strathburn Farm & Dairy.  After marrying Erma, George made Pakenham his home for 61 years.  Driving was a theme throughout his working life, including the family farm, Clark Dairy, trucking for Taggart Ltd and later retiring from Barr Bus Lines as a school bus driver.  George was a lifelong collector of milk bottles and dairy memorabilia and was a member of the National Milk Bottle Collectors Association.  He always enjoyed chats with his milk bottle buddies.  Much of his collection is now on display at M&R Feeds & Farm Supply in Arnprior.  He was the founder of Pakenham Storage and quite possibly the Biggest Toronto Maple Leafs fan in the Ottawa Valley.  George was an active member of the Pakenham Civitan Club and volunteered at many local events.  He enjoyed building picnic tables as well as the occasional outhouse.  As his health needs changed he required regular dialysis treatments.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the Hemodialysis & Nephrology team at the Renfrew Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care & thoughtful support through George’s health journey.  Also special thanks to Arnprior- Braeside- McNab Seniors at Home Program for transportation services.  This kind, reliable & dedicated group of drivers quickly became friends with George and an important part of his social community.  Grateful acknowledgment of the care & support provided by PSW and nursing staff through the Ontario Health at Home Program.  These combined efforts allowed George to stay at home until the end with Erma by his side just as he wished.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family during visitation at the Pilon Family Funeral Home in Arnprior on Thursday evening, July 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Friday morning, July 24th from 9:30-10:30.  A service to honour and remember George will take place in the Pilon Family Chapel on Friday at 11 o’clock followed by a reception. Interment St. Mark’s Cemetery, Pakenham.  In memory of George, a donation to the Pakenham Civitan Club or Renfrew Victoria Hospital Dialysis Unit would be appreciated.
