In the latest edition of Harrowsmith, local resident Heather Phaneuf writes about the Neighbourhood Tomato Community Gardens project and its kinship with the harvesting of tomatoes in Iceland.

In her article, Tomatoes as Catalysts for Change, Heather explains how “surreptitiously creating community networks in Ontario and Iceland, tomatoes demonstrate that food need not travel great distances to our plates.”

The article describes the gardens at Augusta Street Park garden and the Youth Centre, and touches on the Friendship Oven at the Library.

A very good read all in all.
