- The new work by a woman being staged this next season at the Metropolitan Opera is ‘L’Amour de Loin’ by Finnish composer Kaija Saaranaho. It is only the second opera by a woman that the Met has ever staged. The first one was Der Wald presented twice in 1903, and composed by English suffragette Ethel Smyth.
