Almonte in Concert Youth Music Club

A Brand New Season starts in December

What an opportunity!  To perform in a concert hall with superlative acoustics, a 9 foot Steinway concert grand piano in a supportive, non-competitive environment aimed at helping young performers gain experience on the stage.  Too good to be true?  Hardly.  That is exactly what Almonte In Concert’s Youth Music Club has been giving to the community of Mississippi Mills for years.

The club meets 3 or 4 times a year and encourages young musicians to hone their performance skills as well as build new relationships with other musicians in the area.  Meetings include a chance for members to perform one or two pieces.   Special guests speak about and perform their chosen instrument . NEW to the format this year, JAM SESSIONS.  The repertoire is not confined to just classical music.  All genres have been represented at past meetings: jazz, folk, pop, rock…and most certainly, classical.

Club members’ parents are keenly aware of what a treasure the club is to the thriving young musical community in Almonte.  Parent Jody Trant says, “Music Club is the perfect blend of informality, sometimes there are themes but you can always just play anything you want”.

The kids see the inherent value in it too.  Fiddler Danny Albert said “Not only did Music Club give me the opportunity to play in front of an audience for many years, it also introduced me to other young musicians.  It also taught me to be an audience member as well as a performer” says Danny Albert.  Member Max Donaldson adds “It has exposed me to new music and diversified my knowledge of music.”

On Sunday, December 6,  Almonte In Concert’s Youth Music Club kicks off its new season at the Almonte Old Town Hall, 14 Bridge St, starting at 1:30pm. Join us  to perform, watch or even join in on a jam session.

Membership fees are $20 a year for individuals, $30 for families and $7 for a drop in.  Snacks are provided. Our performers love an audience, so do join us, entry if free but donations are always welcome.
