Bicycle & Hiking Workshops
Want to learn how to fix your bicycle or how to get started in bike touring or backpacking? Join Jordan Smith for a demonstration and discussion of key concepts at his home workshop in Almonte. There’s no fee but space is limited to 10 people per session. Email ruggedwheels@gmail.com to register and suggest any specific questions you’d like to cover.
Intro to bike maintenance

This session is aimed at cyclists who want see how to fix their old or new bike. You’ll learn about the basics of getting your bicycle ready to ride, how to fix a flat tire, how to know when something may need more advanced repair, and what tools and supplies can help you maintain your bike. Concepts will be demonstrated. You’re welcome to bring your own bike if you have specific questions to discuss after the workshop.
Intro to bike touring

This session is aimed at intermediate cyclists who are curious about long-distance touring or bike-packing. You’ll learn about how to choose a bike, bags, sleep and shelter system, kitchen, tools and gadgets, and other tips to help your adventure. Example bikes and gear will be on hand to demonstrate concepts.
Intro to backpacking
- Wednesday May 14
- 7:00-8:30 p.m.
This workshop is aimed at hikers who are interested in learning about choosing gear for lightweight backpacking including footwear, clothing, pack, shelter, sleep system, kitchen, food, and other gadgets. Example gear will be on hand to demonstrate concepts.

Jordan is a former elite competitive cyclist and runner who has planned and led adventures in cycling, hiking, motorcycling, mountaineering, and travel around the world. He loves coaching people to help them succeed in taking on new challenges.
