Hydro One has confirmed that it was advised of a power failure affecting most if not all of Almonte, Pakenham and surrounding rural areas at 4:47 p.m. on March 1. Crews were dispatched to identify and repair the problem. By 8 p.m. last night, crews from Hydro One, and Ottawa River Power Corporation conducting foot patrols and inspections had still not found the source of the outage.Different transmission routes were tried and power was restored to 1/3 of Almonte by about 9 p.m. The source was found to be an equipment failure in the Almonte Hydro One Transmission Station on Country Street which affected a line carrying 8 megawatts of power to Ottawa River Power Corporation for redistribution to customers. Power was fully restored to all of Almonte at 3:05 a.m. March 2. Crews from both Hydro One and Ottawa River Power Corporation worked through the night to restore power. Hydo One is still investigating the cause of the transmission failure. Carleton Place and Appleton were not affected by the power outage.
